He finds himself back on Route 121 once again. Though it’s a bit of a hike from Sootopolis, Fern feels at home near Mt. Pyre. There are no fluorescent lights, or oddly colored mushrooms, but the darkness and the heavy, uneasy air reminds him of Glimwood Tangle, back in Galar. Of home.[break][break]

So maybe it’s homesickness that draws him out to the desolate paths. Or maybe because he has to hide away some of the fruits of his recent forgery projects, like the little squirrel that he is.[break][break]

A bit of both? That sounds right.[break][break]

But in the case of work, at least there is no one else around at this hour to— He turns the corner and nearly collides with someone else, someone much smaller. “Oh- hello there. Bitty thing, arentcha?” Fern says as he steps back, smiling lightly at the green-haired girl.[break][break]

Don’t go inspecting any freshly turned dirt, he almost adds, but doesn’t. Too conspicuous.

Makana was on Route 121 in order to do some exercise that wasn't water related though honestly sure preferred water. She still knew it was good to get some work in on land as much of what she'd have to do might involve land based stuff, despite always putting her name down for the water based activities. But she hadn't quite gotten far enough up the totem pole to really make those kind of choices and be taken seriously, despite her insistence that it's her element.

As she rounded a corner, a taller man almost ran into her. And honestly sounded uber creepy to her when he spoke. "This bitty thing, can kick your arse. If you're not careful with your words" responded Makana who honestly was a nice person most of the time but had a slight pet peeve with those that like to insult or play stupid nickname games with people they don't know. She couldn't help here size, her continuous athletics in conjunction with her genetics made her this way.

Worst yet, the guy had one of those Galarian accents that sounded more at home in one of those stadium fan tussles she'd heard about. Where fans went crazy either after a loose or even a win but she wouldn't make that comment as it wasn't very nice, nor was it likely accurate and simply just her flight or fight brain activating. "Watch where you're going next time, would ya" she retorted.

Unexpectedly, the girl reacts in a less than favorable way and Fern's hands lift in surrender as his eyebrows shoot up. "Sorry, sorry. I meant no offense. Just a knee jerk response." He's definitely not looking for anything, even less a fight. He's only come out here to hide his things. "Wasn't expecting to see anyone else at this hour, is all. You surprised me."[break][break]

He won't retract the remark about her height, because she is, well, smaller than him. Not that he really meant as much in a negative or strange way. And frankly, he believes her threat. Mostly. Fern is better at getting out of fights more so than participating. "Right, yeah. I'll do that." The tiniest flare of annoyance sparked in his eyes over being told what to do by someone seemingly younger than himself. But again, he's not looking to pick a fight, so sidesteps to move around her and leave her be.[break][break]

Only for the interaction to have drawn some wild pokemon to the noise. The munna looks docile enough, but he summons his dragapult anyway - just in case. "Cecilia, look! Remember when you were that small?" he snorts, pointing at the drakloak that had also appeared. Cecilia hovers nearby, releasing a cloud of DRAGON BREATH and shrouding the mini-me in paralytic toxin. Fern tosses a ball into the thick of the cloud, momentarily distracted from his spontaneous company.
